In 2002, Piriac-sur-Mer was awarded the label “Petite Cité de Caractère”. This label is given to atypical communities because of their geographical location, their small population or their history and heritage.

If the city has obtained this label, it is mainly thanks to its architecture which reminds the one of the Breton villages, as well as to the names given to the streets or the houses. It is also a very flowery city, as much in flowers as in legends. This small city of character has even inspired two great writers: Alphonse Daudet and Emile Zola.
