Discover the medieval city of Guérande
Just ten kilometers from the Kernodet campsite in Saint-Molf, Guérande invites you to take a trip back in time. Start your visit at the impressive ramparts, lined with round towers. Climb the fortifications to admire the view over the salt marshes. As you pass through the Porte Saint-Michel, you enter the authentic heart of the town, lined with cobbled streets and half-timbered houses. The collegiate church of Saint-Aubin, a treasure trove of Gothic architecture, will surprise you with its stained glass windows and choir.
Don’t miss the artisan boutiques: salt makers, potters, salt creators. Once you’re here, take time to visit the market every Wednesday and Saturday morning. These take place on the main square. And if you’re a history buff, take the opportunity to linger at the Musée du Vieux-Guérande, where you can learn more about the salt-making culture. At the end of the day, we recommend a stroll to Porte Saint-Jean. Numerous cafés and tearooms await you, where you can sample delicious galettes.

What can you do in Guérande from the campsite?
The peninsula offers a wide range of activities within easy reach of the Kernodet campsite. For example, you could take the cycle route through the salt marshes to the sea. Along the way, visit a working saltworks to learn more about the traditional work of the salt worker. Prices vary from site to site, but expect to pay around 5 euros per child and around 10 euros per adult. Continue on to La Baule, a popular beach on the Côte d’Amour.
If you prefer something a little wilder, take to the trails of the Payré estuary or head for the oyster port of Batz-sur-Mer, one of Guérande’s must-sees. You can even enjoy oysters on the quayside. The Brière Regional Nature Park, on the other hand, has a slightly different decor: freshwater plots, thatched cottages and typical barge rides await you. If you set sail in the morning as far as the Pointe du Payré, you’ll be able to observe the waltz of migratory birds.
In the mood for gourmet delights? Stop off at La Turballe, a local fishing port renowned for its shellfish, or take part in culinary workshops based around salt and fish. Finally, for the more sporty among you, a sailing or sand yachting activity on the beach, or fishing at low tide, should be just what you’re looking for!
